LAHORE—The Historical Walled City of Pakistan

Lahore, the Historical City of Pakistan, is the Capital of Punjab Province and the second largest city of Pakistan thus attains the status of one of the most important cities in the whole wide world.

It attracts the most Tourist attraction in Pakistan. The main reason of it being called The Walled City is that Lahore being one of the oldest cities of South Asia,  has also been a city where Mughal Emperors lived, they built a Fort named Lahore Fort and constructed four walls around it as a defensive boundary. Since then, it’s called Walled City.

“ZINDA DILAAN-E-LAHORE”, the people of Lahore, who are famous for their welcoming nature and heart warmth, is also one of the basic reasons tourists love to visit this city.

Lahore is one of the most interesting, historical, crazy, fascinating and non the less adventurous cities of Pakistan and is richly populated with over 11 million food crazed people. Foodies from all around the world love to pay Lahore a visit just because of its delicious foodery and eatery.

There are so many Tourist Attraction places in Lahore. We won’t be able to cover them all but lets just list as many as we can.

THE BADSHAHI MASJID

The Badshahi Masjid is a tremendous Muslim worship place. Its design & architectural structure is marvelous, which make it Lahore’s largest iconic landmark. The Badshahi Masjid is a wonderful huge piece of art which can accommodate approximately 100,000 people (worshippers as well as tourists).

The Badshahi mosque has four minarets of 60 meters in height each, which makes it one of the largest mosques of Pakistan. The tomb of Allama Iqbal, the “Poet of the nation,” is also in the courtyard between the Shahi Qilla and the Badshahi Masjid. Tourists visiting the masjid also stop by his tomb and pray for him.For the Muslim tourists, they also have collected and stored some beyond-price sacred/religious objects and artifacts.

The person can easily get strayed in this Masjid first because of its size and second because of its amazingly designed architecture.

THE SHAHI QILLA/LAHORE FORT:

Shahi Qilla is amongst the five most famous historical forts in Pakistan. The Shahi Qilla or Lahore Fort is no doubt an incredible place to visit, as it shows the magnificent artistic work of Mughal period. Travelers who visit Lahore with their families take a tour of the Fort which reminds them of the glorious Mughal period and its aesthetics. It has beautiful mirror carvings engraved having an appealing look as well.

Within the amazing site lies two more historical landmarks known as Moti Masjid and Sheesh Mahal. Tourists visit Qilla for its beauty, its amazing architecture, its history, its photogenic scenery and most importantly due to its heritage.

MINAR-E-PAKISTAN:

Minar-e-Pakistan is a famous national monument which was constructed between 1960 & 1968. It is situated adjacent to the Badshahi Masjid and opposite to Shahi Qilla. It has a great historical and political significance. This beautiful minaret was built to commemorate the occasion of Lahore Resolution which was passed by the All India Muslim League in 1940.

The Minar-e-Pakistan has a height of about 60 meters/198.5 feet and the view from up there specially at night is splendid.

GREATER IQBAL PARK

All of the above mentioned historical places are very much close to each other that is why, The Greater Iqbal Park, a project started in 2015, to include all of the above 3 historical places inside a closed vicinity, was completed in 2016 and has been the center of attention ever since. People gather here almost daily to see the lovely fountain show and the lights which make these places even more appealing.

It also has many other attractions such as kids play area, snacks, museum which make it a must go area for families.

MASJID WAZIR KHAN

This marvelous piece of art is a masjid built in the Mughal era, in 1633. The engravings in Persian language indicate that the official language of Lahore was Persian at that time. The material used to build the masjid and the craft work is one of its kind. Masjid has Qashani tile work and red sandstone work done in it as well.

This place is nonetheless a dream come true for the obsessed photographers as they witness the glazed colorful tile art with intricate designs.

SHAHI HAMAAM / WAZIR KHAN HAMAAM

This place is famous for its history. It is a Persian styled bath which was built over 400 years ago. Theses baths were built to serve as an endowment for the maintenance of the Wazir Khan Masjid. Nowadays, it is a very popular tourist destination to learn about the ancient history of Lahore.

These are only some of the places worth mentioning which attract a large number of tourists. The list goes on and on.
