Bahawalpur: The City of Palaces

When we think of places to go on holidays, we usually think of the Northern areas of Pakistan or foreign countries. We often forget that we have cities with unparalleled beauty in the midst of our country. One such city is Bahawalpur. It is a city with a rich cultural heritage and houses a number of tourist attractions pleasing to the eye and the heart. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at some of these places:

Noor Mahal:
Situated in Bahawalpur, this palace was built in 1872. With its high and decorated ceilings, marbled and tiled floors, and massive chandeliers, this palace is immensely beautiful and a must-visit whenever you go to Bahawalpur.

Darbar Mahal: 
The architecture of Darbar Mahal is stunning, made out of red bricks. It resembles the ancient Mughalai Forts. The palace has entryways on each side of the building and the exterior has intricate carvings. The palace is visually stunning at night as well when it lights up.

Gulzar Mahal: 
This palace is a beautiful mix of traditional and Islamic architecture. Its architecture has European influences as well. The palace is surrounded by a beautiful garden and it was first built to be the residence for women members of the royal household.

Central Library: 
The Central Library of Bahawalpur is also an architectural marvel. Along with that, it is also a heaven for bibliophiles. The Library is a glorious relic of Bahawalpur’s culture. It has books and documents on a wide variety of subjects and also has rare historical manuscripts.

Fareed Gate:
The Fareed Gate is a historic gate that still stands tall in the city of Bahawalpur.  It is one of the seven historic gates of Bahawalpur, located in the Old City.
